Rudal atau peluru kendali yang dirancang khusus bagi militer Indonesia, memiliki kemampuan yang tidak kalah hebatnya dengan rudal buatan negara Asia lainnya. Departemen Pertahanan bersama Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional (LAPAN) terus melakukan penelitian dan pengembangan rincian rudal itu. Rincian Roket RX 240 ini sebagai berikut;

Selain itu, LAPAN sejauh ini telah mampu membuat roket dengan tingkat keunggulan yang bisa disimak dari diameter dan jarak jelajah. Pertama adalah roket berdiameter 70 mm (biasa disebut RX-70) berjarak jangkau 7,9 km.
Selanjutnya, roket 80 mm (RX-80) berjarak jangkau 8 km; 100 mm (RX-100) berjarak jangkau 5 km; 150 mm (RX-150) berjarak jangkau 15,5 km; serta 250 mm (RX-250) berjarak jangkau 27,9 km.
Selama ini jenis roket yang diluncurkan terdiri ada 2 macam, yaitu RX-150 dan RX-250. Spesifikasi dari RX-150, yaitu panjang 314 cm, garis tengah 150 mm, berat 95,5 kg (tanpa payload), jenis propelan HTPB, konfigurasi propelan star dan elevasi peluncuran 80 derajat.
Sedang spesifikasi RX-250, yaitu panjang 472,5 cm, garis tengah 250 mm, berat 351,4 kg (tanpa payload), jenis propelan HTPB, konfigurasi propelan KG dan evalasi peluncuran 80 derajat.
Kepala LAPAN Adi Sadewo Salatun mengatakan jangkauan 12 roket itu 50 kilometer, sementara roket yang baru saja jenis RX-420 diluncurkan sejauh 100 kilomureter.
Dari 12 roket yang diluncurkan tahun 2007 lalu, di antaranya untuk keperluan militer yakni roket tipe RX-70 FFAR yang berdaya jangkau 50-7,5 km. Artinya, jika ditembakan dari Batam, roket-roket itu bisa menjangkau Singapura.
Sedang spesifikasi RX-250, yaitu panjang 472,5 cm, garis tengah 250 mm, berat 351,4 kg (tanpa payload), jenis propelan HTPB, konfigurasi propelan KG dan evalasi peluncuran 80 derajat.

Mungkin hal ini yang menyebabkan ketika Indonesia untuk yang kedua kalinya berhasil meluncurkan roket rakitan buatan Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional (Lapan) di Garut (2/7), berita tentang peluncuran roket itu sepi dari media massa nasional, tetapi ramai diberitakan media negara tetangga seperti Singapura dan Malaysia.
Bisa jadi jika dibandingkan dengan negara lain yang sudah lebih dahulu mengembangkan roket sejenis, roket Indonesia belum ada ‘apa-apanya’. Namun dengan penguasaan teknologi tersebut yang sudah dibuktikan dengan peluncuran di Garut, kemajuan roket di Indonesia hanya tinggal menunggu waktu saja. Mungkin nanti jangkauannya tidak hanya sampai ke Singapura saja, melainkan dapat melampauinya.
Bisa jadi jika dibandingkan dengan negara lain yang sudah lebih dahulu mengembangkan roket sejenis, roket Indonesia belum ada ‘apa-apanya’.
