Anak-anak perokok pasif menderita gangguan pernafasan dan telinga

Perokok diingatkan akan bahaya asap rokok bagi orang di sekitar mereka atau perokok pasif.

Dalam kampanye iklan televisi di Inggris, pemerintah menegaskan bahwa bahaya asap rokok pada anak-anak akibat orang tua merokok di dalam mobil atau rumah sangat besar.

Pejabat Departemen Kesehatan Inggris, Dame Sally Davies, mengatakan banyak orang masih tidak memahami bahaya dari kebiasaan merokok mereka.
Riset menunjukkan anak-anak yang menjadi perokok pasif membutuhkan perawatan medis intensif yang menelan biaya besar.
Sebagian besar perokok pasif anak-anak menderita masalah di saluran pernafasan, gangguan telinga dan banyak penyakit lainnya.
Survey Kesehatan Publik di Inggris menemukan bahwa tiga perempat orang tua perokok terkejut saat mengetahui dampak asap rokok pada anak mereka.
Dame Sally mengatakan, "Sudah umum diketahui bahwa merokok bisa membunuh anda, tetapi banyak perokok masih tidak menyadari bahaya asap rokok pada orang di sekeliling mereka.
"Pesan kami jelas: berhenti merokok adalah jalan terbaik untuk melindungi keluarga anda."
Dr Harpal Kumar, dari Cancer Research UK, menambahkan, "Buktinya jelas. Merokok di dekat anak-anak sangat berbahaya, terutama di rumah dan mobil, sehingga sangat penting jika mereka dilindungi dari bahaya asap rokok."
