Perusahaan pembuat mobil mewah Porsche mengungkapkan mobil pertama yang dirancang oleh pendirinya adalah mobil elektrik.
Hal ini diungkapkan dalam pameran di museum Porsche di Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Jerman.
Desain mobil yang dibuat oleh
Ferdinand Porsche ini dijuluki Egger-Lohner dan merupakan kendaraan
listrik C.2 Phaeton model, atau singkatnya disebut P1.
Mobil yang dibuat pada tahun 1898 ini
ditampilkan di luar sebuah garasi di Austria yang menjadi tempat
penyimpanannya sejak 1902.
Ferdinand Porsche yang waktu itu berusia 22 tahun merancang P1 untuk produsen mobil Jacob Lohner.
Setelah perjalanan ke AS, Ludwig Lohner yakin
bahwa era kuda dan kereta kuda telah berakhir dan ia meminta Ferdinand
Porsche untuk datang dengan rancangan kereta listrik.
Ferdinand Porsche merancang suatu "motor listrik oktagonal" yang dimotori oleh tenaga baterai listrik.
Menggunakan serangkaian rumit roda gigi, mobil
itu didorong menggunakan 12 gigi pengontrol yaitu enam gigi maju, dua
gigi mundur dan empat gigi yang dapat digunakan untuk menghentikan laju
mobil.

Kendaraan yang bernama P1 ini bisa mencapai kecepatan 34km per jam.

P1 pertama kali turun ke jalan-jalan di Wina,
Austria, pada tanggal 26 Juni 1898 dan bisa mencapai kecepatan hingga
34km per jam.
Bagian atas mobil ini juga dirancang untuk bisa dibuka-tutup.
Ferdinand Porsche muda juga mendaftarkan P1 pada
balap mobil di Berlin tanggal 28 September 1899, yang dengan mudah
mengalahkan pesaingnya.
