Penjualan telepon genggam pintar
melewati ponsel biasa untuk pertama kalinya dalam periode April-Juni
dengan pertumbuhan tertinggi antara lain di Asia.
Perusahan riset Gartner mengungkapkan total
penjualan global telepon genggam di dunia mencapai 435 juta unit dan
sebanyak 225 juta adalah telepon pintar, meningkat pesat 46,5% dibanding
tahun sebelumnya.
Sementara penjualan telepon biasa menncapai 210 juta unit atau turun 21%.
Pertumbuhan penjualan telepon pintar tertinggi ditemukan di Asia, Amerika Latin, dan Eropa Timur.
Definisi dari telepon pintar adalah peralatan telepon genggam yang dilengkapi aplikasi dan bisa terhubung dengan internet, sedangkan telepon genggam biasa memiliki fungsi lebih sedikit dengan harga lebih murah.
"Telepon pintar diperkirakan 51,8% dari penjualan telepon genggam pada kuartal 2013 sehhingga melewati telepon biasa untuk pertama kali," jelas Anshul Gupta dari Gartner.
Bagaimapun perusahaan riset saingan, IDC, mengatakan bahwa hal tersebut sebenarnya sudah terjadi pada tiga bulan pertama 2013.
Para pengamat mengatakan bahwa harga dari telepon pintar yang turun drastis dalam beberapa bulan belakangan mendongkrat peningkatan penjualan.
Dalam waktu lima hingga 10 tahun ke depan, diperkirakan telepon biasa akan semakin sulit dijual.
"Kita memiliki pabrik Asia seperti Samsung, Huawei, ZTE, dan LG yang muncul dengan model telepon cerdas yang lebih terjangkau," kata Andrew Milroy dari perusahaan konsultan Frost & Sullivan.
"Hal itu membantu masuknya ke basis konsumen yang amat besar, khususnya di pasar-pasar yang baru tumbuh."
Selain itu sejumlah operator juga menawarkan prabayar untuk penggunaan data internet sehingga pelanggan bisa membatasi tagihan saat menggunakan email, internet, maupun aplikasi lain sehingga menarik pelanggan baru.
