Uji coba komponen logam teknologi tiga dimensi dapat membuka peluang lebih besar.

Untuk pertama kalinya, pesawat tempur Angkatan Udara Inggris (RAF) Tornado terbang dengan suku cadang yang dibuat menggunakan teknologi cetak 3D, kata perusahaan pertahanan BAE Systems.

Komponen logam hasil teknologi cetak tiga dimensi menjalani uji coba penerbangan di lapangan udara BAE Systems di Warton, Lancashire, akhir bulan lalu.

Bagian-bagian yang dicetak termasuk pelindung radio kokpit dan penjaga pengendali lepas landas.
Teknologi cetak 3D diharapkan dapat mengurangi biaya RAF hingga £1,2 juta selama empat tahun kedepan.
Teknisi BAE tengah memproduksi bagian-bagian untuk empat skuadron pesawat Tornado GR4 - sebagian di antaranya memerlukan biaya kurang dari £100.
